APT BROTH

Amyl APT Broth, AM 8, is based on the formulation developed by Evans and Niven1 and, later Diebel, Evans and Niven2 for the preparation of the inoculum of Lactobacillus viridiscens used in the microbiological assay of Thiamine in biological materials.

Description

Amyl APT Broth is also used for the cultivation of heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria including Lactobacillus sp., Leuconostoc sp. Streptococcus lactis and other organisms requiring a high thiamine concentration. The addition of Bacteriological Agar, Amyl RM 250, to a concentration of 14 grams per litre provides a solid medium for the isolation of these organisms from meats, tinned foods, fruit juices and other food products.
