Description

Amyl Beef Extract is a refined extract which has been prepared and standardized in Australia from selected raw materials, then adjusted to neutral pH before being dried to a fine powder for ease of handling.  However, it has not undergone ultrafiltration and therefore incorporation into liquid culture media will result in cloudiness. Resulting solutions prepared with Amyl Beef Extract will provide a pH level between 6.9 and 7.2. The product is quite suitable for incorporation into solid culture media.

Beef Extract is incorporated into a wide range of standard culture media for use in the routine bacteriological examination of water, milk, food and clinical materials, where the importance of standardized ingredients for uniform performance cannot be over emphasized. Enrichment of these media with Beef Extract, usually to a level between 2 and 4 grams per litre, ensures a source of vitamins, growth factors and nitrogenous material is available for metabolizing bacteria.

Because of the absence of fermentable carbohydrate materials which would interfere with the accuracy of results, Amyl Beef Extract can safely be used in testing procedures for the biochemical identification of a wide range of bacteria.

Note: Amyl Beef Extract is processed from healthy animals in Australia and it’s use has been approved by AQIS as being a BSE free product.
