BRILLIANT GREEN AGAR

A highly selective medium for the isolation of Salmonella, except Salmonella typhi and Shigellasp. from faeces, foods and clinical specimens. Selectivity can be increased by the addition of sulphadiazine at 0.08 g/L.

Description

Brilliant Green Agar (AM 13) has a composition that corresponds with that proposed by Kauffmann (1935)1.

The medium complies with recommendations by the British Pharmacopoeia (1988)2, International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO3565, 1975)3, Deutschland Industrial Normalisation (DIN10160 and DIN10181). Recommended Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods (APHA, 1958)4, Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products (APHA, 1960)5 and Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods (1976)6.
