G C AGAR BASE

A buffered agar base suitable for the preparation of media for the rapid identification of pathogenic neisseria and other fastidious organisms.

Description

G C Media is mainly used as the base for several variations of selectivity in the isolation of pathogenic Neisseria.

Unlike Columbia which is often used as a base, it is buffered to stabilise pH. Certain strains of Neisseria particularly, have proved quite difficult to isolate. It is not unusual to obtain a negative result when clinical or other suspicions, indicate a positive should be obtained.

In these cases, repeat sampling and repeat testing. Perhaps increasing the degree of care taken; and especially shortening the time between taking the specimen and inoculation.
