GROUP B STREP. SCREENING MEDIUM (GBS Broth)

A selective fluid medium used to detect GBS in specimens from prenatal women.

Description

A liquid medium formulated according to the recommendation of the MMWR of May 31, 1996, describing a procedure to be followed for the collection and processing of clinical specimens for the recovery of Lancefiekd’s Group B Streptococci (GBS or Strep.agalactiae) from prenatal women1.

Todd-Hewitt broth is enriched by the addition of yeast extract and the medium is rendered selective by the addition of gentamicin and nalidixic acid.
