Description
A medium developed by King and Metzger1,2 containing a high level of peptone which reduces the inhibitory effects of bile salts and a mixture of carbohydrates to aid identification of enteric pathogens resulting in a medium of moderate selectivity, which is only slightly inhibitory to Salmonella and Shigella species whilst maintaining adequate inhibition of any accompanying flora3. The medium conforms to the specifications of the APHA4.
