Description
Amyl Lactose Peptone Water, (AM 745), is formulated according to the specifications required by Australian Standards Water Microbiology, AS 4276.2 – 19951. Peptones in the medium provide a source of nitrogen and a minimal carbon source, while sodium chloride maintains osmotic equilibrium. Fermentation of lactose by organisms possessing the β galactosidase enzyme is indicated by the production of acid or acid and gas, the medium changing colour as the acid produced alters the colour of the phenol red indicator from red to yellow below a pH of 6.8.
