LISTERIA FRASER BROTH

A secondary enrichment broth for the isolation and cultivation of Listeria sp. from food and environmental sources. Conforms to Australian Standard Methods specifications.

Description

Listeria Fraser broth is based on the formulation described by Fraser and Sperber1 being a modification of the UVM Secondary enrichment broth described by Donnelly and Baigent2. The medium has been modified by the addition of lithium chloride and ferric ammonium citrate, and by doubling the concentration of acriflavine hydrochloride.

Fraser Broth is recommended for the secondary enrichment of Listeria sp. from meat and poultry samples in the United States Department of Agriculture – Food Safety Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) two stage enrichment methodology3 and has been adopted as part of the Australian/NZ Standard Method for the isolation of Listeria sp. from Food and Animal Feeding Stuffs4.
