Description
Amyl MacConkey Broth with Neutral Red (AM 99), is formulated according to the specifications recommended by the World Health Organization for the primary isolation and presumptive identification of coliform organisms in water1. The medium contains bacteriological peptone as a source of nitrogen, with lactose present as a fermentable carbohydrate. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic equilibrium and bile salts are present as a selective agent for coliforms. Neutral red indicator is incorporated into the medium to flag acid produced by the fermentation of lactose, the medium demonstrating a colour change from red to yellow when this occurs.
