mem ENTEROCOCCUS AGAR

A selective medium used in membrane filtration techniques and as a direct plating medium for cultivation and enumeration of enterococcus and faecal streptococci in water samples, sewage, faeces, foodstuffs and other materials.

Description

Gram negative microflora is inhibited by the sodium azide and the medium is very selective for enterococci and when incubated at 44°-45°C, all maroon-red colonies, can be considered to be presumptive enterococci. The T.T.C. induces the colouring and P.A. Hartman indicated in a paper that the addition of 20 mls of a 10% solution of sodium carbonate and 0.5% mls of Tween 80, improved the selectivity, particularly when examining frozen foods. (Ref No
