Description
Amyl Methicillin Supplement, SP 434, is supplied as a frozen, aqueous solution of Methicillin (Sodium salt), at a concentration of 4000 micrograms per ml., which can be incorporated into a culture medium, usually Mannitol Salt Agar, (AM 101) or Mueller-Hinton Agar, AM102, to a concentration of 4µg/ml., so as to provide a screening medium for the detection of strains of Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and coagulase negative staphylococci (MRSE) from clinical and environmental specimens. Confirmation of methicillin resistance in strains so isolated is established by standard disc or dilution susceptibility testing methods.
