Description
Amyl Modified Semi-Solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis Medium with Novobiocin, (SRVN), AM 159, is compounded according to the formulation of DeSmedt et al1,2, who demonstrated the efficacy of this medium when used for the rapid presumptive isolation of motile Salmonella from foods.
The medium contains tryptose and tryptone as sources of nutrients, sodium chloride maintains a relatively high level of osmolarity and potassium dihhydrogen phosphate as a pH buffering system. Magnesium chloride, malachite green and novobiocin are incorporated in the medium as selective inhibitors for organisms other than Salmonella sp.
