Description
Rogosa Agar, a variant of the formulation described by Rogosa et al., was designed for the selective isolation and enumeration of lactobacilli, particularly from saliva, but also from faeces and vaginal specimens and lactobacilli isolated from certain foodstuffs.
It is a suitable medium for antibiotic sensitivity testing and presumptive identification of lactobacilli.
Rogosa Agar is classified as an enrichment medium due to it’s highly nutritional composition. The selective agents sodium acetate and ammonium citrate in conjunction with the low pH of the traditional formula inhibits the growth of streptococci, moulds and other oral flora.
