SABOURAUD DEXTROSE AGAR – CG (USA)

A modification of Sabouraud’s original formula used in the United States for the selective isolation of pathogenic fungi from clinical material.

Description

The low pH and high glucose content of Amyl Media Sabouraud Dextrose Agar – CG (USA), AM 173, makes it moderately selective for the isolation of  filamentous fungi, yeasts, aciduric and acidophilic bacteria.  However, inclusion of the broad spectrum antibiotic, chloramphenicol, together with the powerful aminoglycoside, Gentamicin, renders the medium  totally selective for fungal organisms (yeasts and moulds) only. Luxuriant growth of dermatophytes, saprophytic moulds and yeasts, is encouraged by the presence of Amyl Media Mycological Peptone (RM307) allowing rapid development while stimulating the formation of typical morphology and pigmentation.  Bacteriological Agar (RM250), at a concentration of 14g/L makes Amyl Media Sabouraud Agar especially suitable for use either in petri dishes, or in bottles or tubes as agar slopes.

Amyl Sabouraud Dextrose Agar – CG (USA), AM 173, is available in 100g, 500g containers and in bulk packs. Store the dehydrated medium below 25°C in a dry place and use before expiry. Tighten cap after each usage.
