Description
Amyl Salt Meat Broth , AM 180, is particularly suitable for the enrichment of small numbers of staphylococci from heavily contaminated clinical samples such as faeces when investigating staphylococcal food poisoning.1
In industry, this substrate has a role in the isolation of some of the halophilic micrococci which may be found on hides and in raw salt supplies2.
It should be noted that satisfactory coagulase testing cannot be performed directly from high salt containing media. Sub-culture to a medium of lower salt content such as Blood Agar Base or Nutrient Agar is suggested for this purpose.
