TRYPTONE SOY BROTH

A general purpose liquid medium for the cultivation of a variety of fastidious organisms that does not generally require further enrichment.

Description

Amyl Tryptone Soy Broth, AM 185, is the Soybean Casein Digest Medium recommended by the USP1 for sterility testing. The nutritional balance provided by a pancreatic digest of casein and a papaic digest of soybean, complemented with glucose as a readily available energy source, provides a medium repeatable in performance and capable of inducing rapid and prolific growth of fastidious and non-fastidious organisms. The exceptional clarity and light colour of Amyl Tryptone Soy Broth benefits early recognition of microbial growth from small inocula, thereby enhancing it’s value as a sterility test medium.

Rapid cell growth in this medium is accompanied by rapid cell decline, therefore Tryptone Soy Broth is not recommended for the maintenance of stock cultures, especially those of acid sensitive, fastidious organisms.

To assist the growth of anaerobes, the addition of sgar in the range of 0.05 – 0.2% will reduce convection currents and oxygen infiltration. If the medium has not been freshly prepared, it should be boiled to expel any dissolved oxygen immediately prior to use. Alternatively, the medium may be allowed to pre-reduce by standing for a term in an anaerobic work-station or incubator.
