Description
Violet Red Bile Agar (AM 210) is a lactose and bile salts containing medium of similar formulation to the MacConkey Agars developed in the early part of the twentieth century by MacConkey and other workers for the detection and differentiation of enteric organisms into lactose fermenting and lactose non-fermenting groups.
Violet Red Bile Agar is particularly useful for the determination of coliform levels in milk and other dairy products and equipment, other food products and water. VRBA is specified for the pour plate enumeration of coliforms in foods, including dairy products, by the Australian Standard – Food Microbiology1
