AUSTRALIAN STANDARD MODIFIED LISTERIA BROTH

A medium for the enrichment and selective isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from dairy products. Conforms to Australian Standards

Description

Amyl Australian Standard Modified Listeria Broth, AM 792, is compounded according to the formulation specified in the Australian Standard- Food Microbiology Examination for Listeria monocytogenes in Dairy Products1. This medium is a variation of the ISO Listeria Enrichment Broth1, (Amyl AM 780), in which the buffering capacity has been enhanced and sodium pyruvate has been added in an effort to assist the resuscitation and recovery of damaged cells.

Peptones, glucose and yeast extract included in the formula provide sources of nitrogen and carbon, together with the vitamins and growth factors necessary for bacterial metabolism. The enhanced buffering capacity of the medium is provided by the addition of

mono-Potassium phosphate and di-Sodium phosphate, complementing the di-Potassium phosphate already present in Tryptone Soy Broth. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic equilibrium in the enrichment broth.
