Description
Peptone Water media is a minimal medium used for non-fastidious organisms.
When used as a carbohydrate media phenol red is normally added at the rate of 1ml of 1% solution per litre, in which case the broth is then added to tubes containing inverted durham tubes; to which is added the sterile carbohydrate solution required to give a final concentration of 1%.
Turbidity and gas production are indicators by Standards Methods.
Indole testing with this media is no longer recommended rather Amyl Tryptone Water AM 190 should be used for this test.
