CETRIMIDE B AGAR

Used for the selective isolation and identification of Pseudomonads and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from water samples. Conforms with Australian Standard Methods.

Description

The formulation of Amyl Cetrimide B agar is based on the ‘B’ medium devised by King, Ward and Raney1 (sometimes described as ‘Pseudomonas F’ medium) and subsequently modified by Brown and Lowbury2 by incorporating 0.3 mgm/ml. of the quaternary ammonium cationic detergent, Cetrimide (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide), into the medium in order to obtain selectivity for Pseudomonads. while enhancing the production of yellow, fluorescing pigments from the organisms.

Cetrimide B Agar, AM 752, is specified by the Standards Association of Australia for the isolation, enumeration and confirmation of Pseudomonads. and Pseudomonas aeruginosa from water samples using the membrane filtration method and the most probable number method (MPN).
