LISTERIA MOX SUPPLEMENT

An alternative selective supplement for the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from poultry and other foodstuffs

Product Code: SP455 Categories: , ,

Description

Amyl Listeria MOX Supplement, SP 455, is an alternative selective supplement for use with Amyl Listeria Selective Agar Base, (Oxford Formulation) AM 86, for the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from dairy products, poultry and other foodstuffs. The formulation of the supplement is a modification of that described by McLain and Lee1, subsequently specified by the U.S. Food Safety Inspection Service as part of the method for the isolation and presumptive identification of Listeria monocytogenes from foodstuffs.

The level of moxalactam in Amyl Listeria Selective Supplement, SP 455, has been reduced from the FSIS specified level of 20 mgm/litre to 15 mgm/litre because of evidence that some strains of Listeria sp. may be susceptible to the higher level.

As a selective supplement for the suppression of unwanted contaminating organisms, the combination of antibiotics, Colistin and the third generation cephalosporin, Moxalactam, ensures the inhibition of the majority of gram negative contaminants and staphylocci. Strains of Ps.aeruginosa are inhibited by the former, while moxalactam is active against virtually all members of the Enterobacteriaceae, including Enterobacter and Proteus species, as well as staphylococci.

Supplied in box of 10 x 100gm vials.
