Amyl Rappaport-Vassiliadis Soy Peptone Broth (RVS), AM 153, is a modification of Rappaport-Vassiliadis Enrichment Broth1,2, and is based on the revised formulation of van Schothorst et al.3, who altered their original modified formulation4 (Amyl AM 154) by adding di Potassium hydrogen phosphate to increase the pH buffering capacity for storage of uninoculated media as well as optimising the concentration of magnesium chloride in the medium. Both modifications were reported to enhance the capacity of the medium to reliably isolate salmonellae, the importance of the latter being emphasized by Petersz, et al.5
