Description
This medium is an improved version of the formula of Vogel and Johnson1 who modified Tellurite – Glycine medium2 for the isolation of coagulase positive mannitol fermenting Staphylococcus aureus from foods and clinical specimens. The addition of pyruvate to the medium provides an additional energy source which is beneficial for the growth of staphylococci, resulting in a more rapid growth rate and, consequently, a quicker evaluation time.
