Amyl Listeria Standard Selective Supplements, SP 441 and SP441B, are ready to use supplements compounded according to the formulation specified by the ISO/DIS International Standard as outlined in the Australian Standard® – Food Microbiology – Examination for Listeria monocytogenes in Dairy Products1 and by the US Food and Drug Administration for the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from food and dairy products2.
The formulation of Amyl Supplements, SP 441 and SP 441B, is based on the work performed by Lovett3 and his colleagues who demonstrated that the incorporation of Acriflavine Hydrochloride, Nalidixic Acid and Cycloheximide into enrichment broth for the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes as a means of suppressing the growth of unwanted organisms, increased the rate of recovery of small numbers of listeria from food samples
