Description
Amyl Bacillus Cereus Selective Agar, AM 19, is based on the formulation developed by Holbrook & Anderson1, who described the medium as PEMBA (polymixin pyruvate egg yolk mannitol bromothymol blue agar) medium. This medium is capable of detecting small numbers of vegetative cells and spores in food, in the presence of large numbers of contaminating flora with the production of easily recognisable colonies which can be confirmed microscopically as B. cereus. The medium is stipulated by Standards Australia for isolation of B. cereus from foodstuffs2.
