CARY BLAIR TRANSPORT MEDIUM

A transport/holding medium for the survival of enteric and other organisms in specimens of clinical material

Description

Amyl Cary Blair Transport Medium is formulated according to the method described by Cary and Blair, who developed the low nutrient content, low oxidation – reduction potential and high pH medium specifically for the long term survival of organisms during transport of faecal specimens.

Minimal nutrients in the medium contribute to bacterial survival without replication, thereby preventing overgrowth of unwanted normal flora, while the higher pH level brought about by the sodium phosphate limits cell destruction due to acid formation.

Amyl Cary-Blair Transport Medium, AM 761, is available in 100g, 500g containers and in bulk packs.

Store the dehydrated medium below 25°C in a dry place and use before expiry date. Tighten cap after each use. The prepared medium should be stored below 25°C away from light for up to 19 months.
