A differential medium, of varying selectivity, used for the detection and isolation of enteric micro-organisms and other Gram negative bacteria present in clinical, water and food samples.
MacConkey Agar (without Salt) has the identical formulation to AM94 except that the sodium chloride has been omitted. This low electrolyte medium is particularly useful in the culture of urine samples where a mixed flora may be present, because it prevents the spreading of most Proteus species. It is also suitable for use in any of the applications mentioned above.
