XLD AGAR

Xylose Lysine Desoxycholate Agar is a differential, selective medium for the isolation and presumptive identification of enteric pathogens especially Salmonella and Shigella.

Description

XLD medium was originally formulated by Taylor for the isolation and identification of enteric pathogens especially Shigella.

It includes Sodium Desoxycholate which is inhibitory to Gram positive organisms and reduces the swarming of proteus spp.

XLD utilises three reactions xylose fermentation, lysine decarboxylation and production of hydrogen sulfide.
