Description
KF Streptococcus Broth was formulated by Kenner et al, as a selective medium for the detection and enumeration of enterococci and faecal streptococci in water, foodstuffs and other materials using the membrane filtration technique or the MPN presumptive test1,2.
With the exception of the agar component, the formulation of KF Streptococcus Broth is exactly the same as previously detailed for KF Streptococcus Agar, AM 76 (Page 1). The fluid medium is used to saturate a filter paper pad for the growth of organisms on the surface of a membrane in the membrane filtration procedure (refer to Outline of Technique, Page 1), or in the MPN procedure as detailed in Australian Standard for Water Microbiology5 for the quantitation of enterococci and faecal streptococci from samples of water.
