A solid indicating media used for the differentiation of Enterobacteriaceae.
Simmons Citrate Agar is a solid media which contains Ammonium salts as the only source of Nitrogen, with Citrate as the only source of Carbon. Simmons Citrate is basically a solid form of Kosers Liquid Media, to which has been added Bromothymol Blue. The media is alkaline and indicates from initial green to deep blue in 24 – 48 hours. Foetal Coliform tend not to grow on this media or grow so sparsely that indication reaction is very weak.
