Description
This formula, also known as Buffered Brilliant Green Bile Broth1,2, conforms to that of Mossel, Vissar and Cornellisen3 and Mossel and Harrewijin4. Lactose has been replaced with Dextrose to enhance the growth of most Enterobacteriaceae. The medium is more selective than Lactose broth or Mannitol broth because of the addition of Ox Bile and Brilliant Green. EE broth (BBGB broth) is also used in an MPN technique for the detection and enumeration of Enterobacteriaceae, without resuscitation, in foodstuffs in conjunction with Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar (Amyl AM211)1,2. EE Broth is used in conjunction with Violet Red Bile Glucose Agar (AM211).
If specific members of the Enterobacteriaceae are sought, then subcultures need to be made onto Brilliant Green Agar (AM13), Brilliant Green Agar Modified (AM23), Desoxycholate Citrate Agar (AM47) XLD Agar (AM221) or MacConkey Agar (AM94).
