Description

Amyl Malt Extract, RM 306, is prepared from sprouted grain, extraction of soluble products followed by evaporation to dryness at low temperatures, thereby preserving the bulk of the nitrogenous and carbohydrate constituents in the material. The product is then purified and clarified to ensure that it is suitable for bacteriological purposes.

Malt Extract was originally employed in “wort”medium1, and is normally employed as a major ingredient of culture media for the isolation and propagation of yeasts and moulds important in the food and beverage industries, as well as a wide range of medically important fungal pathogens including pathogenic yeasts such as Cryptococcus and Candida species, dimorphic pathogens such as Histoplasma and Blastomyces species, dermatophytes such as Microsporum, Trichophyton and Epidermophyton species, and a wide range of fungi that are the causative organisms of opportunistic systemic mycoses occurring in debilitated, immunocompromised patients.
