MODIFIED EC BROTH

A modification of standard methods EC broth that is used as an enrichment medium for the detection of E.coli O157:H7 in meat products.

Description

Modified EC Broth (mEC+n) was developed by Okrend et al1 who used it as the enrichment medium in a screening system for the detection and isolation of Verotoxin producing (VTEC+) E.coli O157:H7 from ground beef. Standard methods EC Broth (AM 57) is modified by reducing the level of Bile Salts No.3 from 1.5 grams per litre to 1.12 grams per litre and incorporating Novobiocin to a level of 20 mg. per litre.
